A permit must be issued for all hot work outside of designated hot work areas. Hot work includes but is not limited to: Oxy-fuel cutting welding or burning, brazing, soldering, MIG/TIG welding, grinding, or any process that produces sparks, heat or uses open flames

Safety Precautions

All items must be checked before work commences. Mark each item as Required (Y/N) then confirm compliance.

The work area is defined, screened off and access to unauthorised persons is restricted

Flammable liquids, dusts, and gases have been removed from the area

The work area and immediate vicinity has been inspected for combustible materials within a 10m sphere and have either been removed or covered with a non-combustible sheet to prevent the support of a fire

Tanks, vessels, and pipes have been fully purged of flammable gases and liquids

Appropriate fire extinguishers are readily available for use

Any pipe work is fully protected from heat and sparks

A means of sounding the alarm has been identified (nearest fire call point)

Cutting or welding or grinding equipment has been checked and is in good working order with flashback arrestors fitted to oxy-fuel equipment

Any smoke or heat detectors in the area have been isolated (inform HS&E officer)

Fire watch must be in place during the hot works including through breaktime periods and for 2 hours after the hot work is finished. This is a Mandatory Requirement

Combustible walls, floors, roofs, partitions are protected (note: consider non-visible areas)

All required Personal Protective Equipment is available and suitable for use
